Schneiderman's Rocks for Bridging was a success!
We raised over $3800 for Bridging and had enough furniture and household goods donations to fill more than half of a semi truck! This is great news and we're looking forward to an even bigger and better event next year! Thanks to everyone for participating! Check out a full recap on Bridging's website.

We'd like to thank all the vendors who donated items for the silent auction and everyone who brought in donations of furuniture and household goods for Bridging. We'd also like to thank Jim Grittner for taking fantastic photos.

Schneiderman's Furniture Teams with Bridging to Help Families in Need
Founded in 1987, Bridging is a non-profit 501(c)(3), operating 100,000 square feet of warehouse space in Bloomington, Roseville, and Central Minnesota. Bridging was founded on the simple concept that community resources should be shared with those in need. Their purpose is to "bridge the gap" between the " haves" and the "have nots" by providing the economically disadvantaged with a one-time gift of quality furniture and household items to help stabilize and improve their lives while effectively using community resources.
When you purchase furniture from Schneiderman's, we will take your gently used furniture and deliver it to Bridging for a nominal fee on your behalf. You'll get the opportunity to help a family in need and will be able to take a tax deduction for your donated furniture. To see Larry and Russ explain this process - click here.
This Community Partnership Award was presented by Mutual of America in thanks to all the Schneiderman's associates involved in the Bridging program which has helped so many families in transition.

Hot Trends Fresh from High Point Furniture Market 2009
Our late April trip to High Point Furniture market in High Point, NC was a five day blur of visiting the showrooms of the High Point market with beautiful southern spring weather to keep us going. The High Point Market Authority has added shuttles and van service throughout the widespread buildings and shopping areas so getting around has become easier and less difficult on the feet, but there are still many square feet of showrooms to visit throughout downtown High Point and beyond. We found some great new products and vendors to add in for the fall of 2009. We'll be providing more details on these items in future articles. Following are some key color and style trends that we noticed throughout the market that will be important in the months ahead.
Color & Style Trends
Can color trends be economy-conscious? The color experts say "yes!" There are four strong directions in colors for the home that are influenced by the down economy.
The first is a palette dominated by neutrals and focuses on playing it safe. The neutrals are slightly tinged with tones of gray, taupe, charcoal, tea and champagne. In addition to the tinged neutrals, a classic off-white will be included. Dark browns will shift towards taupe and grays will gain in importance With neutral palettes, embrace contrast for a highly livable look Combine rough with smooth, modern with ethnic, and sleek with organic for a mesmerizing and subtle luxury.
If playing it safe sounds, well, just too safe, an alternative direction is towards colors that breathe exoticism and luxury as a means to escape from the here and now. Shades are deep and rich with a sophisticated depth Spicy hues are creative and bold when combined with rich exotic greens and smoky blues. The influence in pattern will be Russian and Bohemian artifacts and patterns. Geometric prints and deep patinas combine for a vibrant, mellow mood for reflection on past or future adventures.
Now, for a more youthful approach, look for colors and designs that are exciting and attention-grabbing like Salsa, Seaweed, Finch, and Mesquite. the color are combined in unexpected ways like brown with yellow, or strawberry with sky blue for an irreverent attitude. Inspired by Japanese comics called anime and manga, the colors are surreal with a comic feeling.
The sustainability and eco-friendly concepts are moving beyond trend into a real sense of responsibility for many people. Gardening, farmers markets and organic foods are gaining in popularity. A color palette inspired by vegetable colors, plant color and soil colors will become the natural palette. Enduring greens and yellows combined with the colors of nature's bounty will burst with the energy of Mother Nature.
Texture & Materials
Bamboo continues to grow in exposure and usage usually in styles with an Asian Zen mood.
We noticed two trends in hardware on case pieces are the recessed pull and kitchen cabinet-like pull that add a new look.
Elements of modern and traditional design are becoming more blended for more universal appeal. We noticed more architectural details with clean lines throughout the Market.
Reclaimed woods are appearing in a new organic natural look in contemporary styles or traditional reproductions in more refined styles.
Tweed fabrics combined with velvets offer a more modern traditional look. Velvet corduroy in many colors with an amazingly soft hand is very popular.
Monochromatic color palettes with tonal pattern play in fabrics and trims is a very subtle and elegant touch.
GRAY! Charcoal, pewter, granite, silver, greige - feels fresh and sophisticated.
Creating a Conversation Piece in Your Home!
In an economy where more and more people are foregoing vacations and travel in lieu of relaxing and entertaining at home in Minnesota, some of you are looking for cool conversation pieces to individualize your space. An eclectic chair, a pair of funky ottomans, a distinctive piece of art, all can add a touch of whimsy, make a bold statement, or nuance your personal style. At Schneiderman's Furniture, we carry all sorts of styles that will conversate!
One way to stop the eye is through upholstered fashion pieces. This could be an unexpected fabric on a classic frame or silhouette for an updated look while maintaining the integrity of an old look. Patterns should be large and bold such as an over-scaled menswear plaid or brocade. It could be an unexpected mix of materials and textures, such as trendy colored velvets on a French chair or linen used in a modern traditional application. Bursts of sophisticated color, geometric patterns and a mix of materials add whimsy to an otherwise urban design aesthetic.
Just arriving in the stores are accent chairs from Stein World. One of the chair styles consists of a traditional wood frame covered with a leopard print fabric that is full of quirk! We carry five different chair styles and each frame comes only in the cover shown. A lot of look at an exceptional value. Paladin is an excellent resource for distinctive frames and the latest fabrics. From a stylish curved sectional to a carved settee trimmed with embossed metallic leather, there is a frame to match all styles. What could be cooler than an Ekornes chair in a trendy color? The Alphaville Design Lux Chair and Ottoman is a reproduction, inspired by the historical designs of Charles and Ray Eames, and will be in our stores soon!
There are also many casegood manufacturers we carry that have eye-catching styles. Stanley Furniture launched Continuum at the last High Point Market and is currently in production. Continuum is a transitional collection of about 60 pieces that will be made primarily in Stanleytown, VA. Elements for this collection include perimeter framing, Chippendale fretwork, upholstered headboards, woven wood, marble, shagreen, metal and rain glass. Continuum will be featured at the Schneiderman's showrooms starting in September.
Also arriving soon is the Tommy Bahama Kingstown Collection from Lexington. The pieces in this collection are large and in charge, evoking the West INdies, Africa and the Caribbean, with British Colonial , Campaign and Safari influences. The leather and hardwood Tortola Chest features nail-head trim, etched metal escutcheons on the doors, bronze/copper-like porter's handles on the sides and bun feet.
The Bob Mackie Signature collection from American Drew features rosewood colored stain, feather and ribbon inlay patters and style that gives a nod to a Hollywood Regency vibe. All the glamour and drama of vintage Hollywood without the feather boa. Dare to be different!
The Vista Collection from Legacy Classics is truly remarkable. The rich chocolate brown finish and clean lines are smooth and beautiful. A warm and lasting testament to modern design and unique styling, this group can be purchased in a variety of different ways, from headboard extensions to under-bed storage.
Eclectic and fun accent pieces can be found from a variety of vendors. Moe's has some unique Asian accent cabinets, along with some fun looks from Stein World and Butler.
When completing a room, it is often the little things, the details that matter. Many people struggle with accessory decisions, often stopping after purchasing their furniture. Distinctive art, lamps and accessories can be found from a variety of our vendors. Left Bank Art has some edgier canvases, from John Lennon to textured abstracts. WIllow Green offers really cool lamps with patterned bases from twigs and berries to brown funky flowers. Also from Willow Green, panels with "artifacts" give fun visual interest that is both cool and unexpected. Uttermost carries cool metal framed art. Imax has a set of three Mercury bottles with faceted crystal stoppers...expected in traditional, but great in contemporary. Need an alternative to a ficus tree? A new item called "Multiple Sticks on a base" will offer a slight visual screen behind sofas or in corners as an art piece. It is on order and will be in our stores soon!
As you look to your home as a relaxing retreat, is is becoming more and more important to individualize their furnishings. Fresh and distinctive accents will help get that conversation going. With Schneiderman's Furniture being a leader in our marketplace for customization, we have the ability to find the accent that is right for you!
